Day 4 of TMacD's Brainerd Bike Tour of 2023

Thursday, September 14, Saint Cloud to Minneapolis 74 miles, 10.1 average, Max 21.9mph, 7h19

St Cloud State University

Campus of St. Cloud State University

I start riding at 8:15am on a sunny, cool, and windy morning in Saint Cloud. I ride through the campus of the local University. They're Bold Innovative and Focused - or BIF for short.

Flag blowing in the wind

Flag Blowing in the Wind

I head out of Saint Cloud on Sherburne Country Road 8 headed to Clearwater. There's a flag blowing in the distance and "the answer my friend is blowing in the wind." That is, this is another day of nasty headwinds. Oh joy.

I should mention that I appreciate those who fly flags. They help considerably when one is riding a bike. Cause "you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows." You just need a flag.

I cross over the Mississippi into Wright County and enter Clearwater. It's a sunny day and I'm headed home.

MRT Sign

MRT Sign

As I head toward Monticello, I pass by a familiar sign. I'm saddened that this guiding light of a sign has been damaged. A large part of the route I rode followed the Mississippi River Trail (MRT).

Cannabis Cave

As I enter the city of Ostego I see that someone here has joined the cannabis movement. I'm alos more than half way through this day's route.

Soon I cross back over the Crow River again and enter Hennepin County. There is a construction zone here, and I know it wasn't here on Monday when I left Hennepin County. It's one those zones where a flagman stops traffic until all the traffic from the other direction has passed by. The flagman says to me, "this is not a good place to be." My instinct is to say to him, "well, what are you doing here then." However, he just might not find the humor in it. So, I tell him, "this is only the way home for me and I'm sure everything will be just fine." It all did work out just fine. I let all the cars behind me go first and I followed behind. No problem.

we are nuts

We Are Nuts

As I enter into the Minneapolis city limits, my return is greeted with the following, all too appropriate, sign. As, I must be nuts - in a good way.

I arrive home exhausted after three strait days of headwind, but I'm also exhilarated. It was me against the world and I won. What a great tour!
